Campus Resources Pertaining to Identity Misrepresentation or Theft
Incidents can range in severity from misguided pranks to outright felonies. There are several campus resources you can turn to for help and advice:
- Department of Public Safety (DPS)
DPS investigates criminal, or potentially criminal, incidents occurring on the Ann Arbor campus. If you've been a victim of a crime, or fear for your safety, contact DPS immediately by telephone:
- Call 911 from any University telephone for emergencies in progress
- Call the office at (734) 763-1131 for non-emergency situations
- IT User Advocate (ITUA)
The User Advocate handles problems related to the misuse of campus IT resources (for example, fraudulent use of e-mail, personal computers, or networks). The ITUA is an excellent source of help and advice to individuals who feel they have been victimized or misrepresented. Send e-mail to: abuse@umich.edu
- Office of Student Conduct Resolution (OSCR)
Individuals who wish to report or discuss potential violations of the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities can either submit a written inquiry via the OSCR website or call the office at 936-6308 to schedule a meeting.
- Managing your UMICH (Kerberos) password
Insecure passwords and password theft can lead to identity theft. You can re-set your password online. The ITCS Accounts Office (764-8000) can provide assistance with forgotten passwords (however, they will NOT be able to re-set a password over the phone). Please note that other secure systems require additional passwords.
